September 2008 Board of Directors Meeting

Hello section members,

As you may (or may not) know, I was elected as our section representative to the USFA Board of Directors (BoD). The BoD, if you are not aware, is one of the "branches" of the USFA government. It is comprised of the USFA Officers (President, VPs, etc), a rep from each of the 10 USFA sections, four reps elected by the USFA Congress, and a few other people.

The BoD is, in my opinion, the body that makes decisions that have the most direct effect on all fencers. For example, it is the BoD that approves changes to the qualification rules for events like Summer Nationals. Because of this influence, it is important for members to be aware of what the BoD is discussing.

The BoD typically meets three times per season - in September, February (at JOs), and July (at Summer Nationals). The next meeting is scheduled for September 20-21, 2008 in Chicago, and I will be attending that meeting.

Prior to each meeting, an agenda is published listing the topics to be discussed and possibly voted on. As your representative on the BoD, I encourage you to review the agenda and provide me with your feedback on the issues at hand. This will ensure that when I cast votes for our Section, my vote represents the desires of the Section members.

The agenda for the September meeting can be found HERE.

Please post your comments here, or email them directy to me at chair [at] wwdfencing.org.

Thanks!
